Regardless of the type of system or how complex a system may be, there are always three standard components to any given alarm system. In the same way, all security systems use an electrical current as their source of power as well, which allows various sensors to be triggered in order that the alarm system may activate automatically.
These three standard components will oftentimes vary in how advanced or complex their inner workings are, but they still serve the same basic functions. In order for a home alarm system to work the control panel, signaling device, and detectors are all connected together. Some of these standard components are connected with each other through the use of such techniques as infrared signals or radio frequencies.
The control panel of a home alarm is the central processing unit. Within this panel, the system can be programmed according to the needs of the residential home. The control panel, which can be reached through the usage of remote keypads, is used as a means to turn the home alarm on, off, and to reset it as well. The control is also used to store the user’s setting through a memory chip.
All home security systems have some type of signaling devices, but it is not unusual for them to have more than one. A signaling devices is the component within a security system that is responsible for making the sound such as bell, chime, whistle, or buzzer when the alarm has been triggered by an intruder.
Typically, these sounds are high pitched and loud enough to cause even the most confident burglar to panic. Nowadays, more and more home alarm security systems are using strobe lights in colors of red, blue, or yellow to accompany these sounds as they rotate around the room. Other available signaling devices are speech dialers and telephone relays.
The last type of standard component of a security system is known as the detector, which is also a type of sensor. Detectors basically have the job of reported to the control panel in the event an intruder is felt moving around the property. There are three common types of detectors used in a home alarm security system.
The most sensitive of these three is the vibration sensors, which can be triggered by the tiniest of vibrations from a window or door. The type of detectors normally mounted within window edges and doors is known as magnetic contact detectors. Infrared detectors are typically used for the detection of motion around a home that is unusual. These detectors also have the ability to detect smoke and temperature changes too.
